During a recent guest appearance on Mohsin Abbas Haider’s talk show, Public Demand, Iffat Omar shared her thoughts on Uorfi Javed’s fashion sense. The fashion-model-turned-actor was asked about her opinion on Indian television and social media star Uorfi Javed’s notoriously eccentric and provocative dressing.

Iffat, who is known to hold strong but mostly progressive opinions, was quick to assert that it’s Uorfi’s decision how she chooses to dress and while she herself would never indulge in similar fashion choices, she still believes that Uorfi should have the freedom to wear whatever she wants.

The host posed the question to Iffat in a humorous, almost derogatory manner, referring to Uorfi as a ‘species’ from across the border. However, Iffat did not take the bait and refused to jump on the bandwagon to ridicule a peer in the entertainment industry. When asked “How do you view Uorfi Javed’s fashion sense? Does it even fall under fashion?”, Iffat replied, “Woh meray type ka fashion nahi hai tou main tou nahi karoon gi. Par main uski burai kyun karoon? (It’s not my type of fashion, so I would never dress like that. But why should I criticise her?)”.

Mohsin further prompted her, asking “Fashion kay naam par kuch bhi karna jaaiz hai? Matlab fashion kay koi parameters hain? Koi do’s and don’ts hain yah nahi hain? (Is it justified to do anything in the name of fashion? Does fashion have any parameters? Are there any do’s and don’ts in fashion, or no?)”

To this, Iffat gave a very smart and politically correct response, “Do’s and don’ts kuch tou hotay hain lekin who main yah aap tou nahi decide karain gay. (There are some do’s and don’ts in fashion, but neither you nor I have the power to decide what those are).”

She also went on to assert that everyone has their own distinct fashion sense and their own likes, dislikes, and preferences when it comes to fashion, and that no one should have the right to dictate someone else’s fashion choices or personal style.
